Over one hundred years ago, perhaps up to two dozen ships in any season delivered evergreens to markets in Great Lakes states known as “Christmas Tree Ships” includcluding garlands, and other holiday decorations In 1882, inventor Thomas Edison’s friend Teddy Johnson hand-wired 80 red, white and blue light bulbs and wound them around his Christmas tree. In Chicago, most vessels, including the Rouse Simmons, sold the trees directly from their berths along the Chicago River's Clark Street docks. Electric lights were strung from the schooner's bow to stern, and customers were invited to board the ship to choose their trees.
Today’s blog page applauds both Budsin Woodcraft in North Carolina and Duffy Boats in Newport Beach for making Christmas Cruises. Here is the Lucia elettico on Lake Como, Italy with her builder Erio Matteri disguised as Babbo Natale (Father Christmas) in fond memory of is little granddaughter Maddy. https://youtu.be/AL49EnsT6Uc?t=170
So if you have decorated your tree or home, why not decorate your electric boat too! Ho!Ho!Ho! You've only got SIX DAYS LEFT!
